Questions people ask before they ring
These are the questions people ask Jerry before they ring, answered plainly: what a new conservatory roof costs, whether it needs planning permission or Building Control, how long we are on site, whether your frames can stay, and what the room is actually like afterwards.
Cost
- How much does a new conservatory roof cost?
- It depends on the size and shape of your conservatory and on which system you choose. An insulated panel roof comes in at around half the cost of a tiled roof. We give you a written fixed price after a free survey, and the number we write is the number you pay.
Paperwork
- Will my new roof meet building regulations?
- Yes. We handle the whole process and hand you a Building Control certificate when the job is done.
- Do I need planning permission?
- Usually not for a roof replacement on an existing conservatory. Building regulations approval is a separate thing and we take care of it.
The work
- How long does the work take?
- Most tiled roof replacements take 2 to 5 days on site depending on the size and shape of the conservatory. Panel roofs are usually finished in 1 to 2 days.
- Can my existing frames take a solid roof?
- Usually yes, because modern systems weigh about the same as the glass they replace, but we check first, and if your frames cannot take it we will tell you straight rather than fit it anyway.
- Do you use subcontractors?
- The fitters who come to your house are our own regular teams, not a crew hired for the week. Jerry is connected directly to every job, so if something needs sorting out you are talking to the person who priced it.
After
- Will it really be warmer in winter and cooler in summer?
- Yes. That is the whole point of an insulated roof, and it is also far quieter in heavy rain.
- What guarantee do I get?
- A 10 year workmanship guarantee on our installation, plus the manufacturer's own warranty on the roof system itself.
- Can I see one of your finished roofs?
- Yes. We do not run a showroom, because the cost of a showroom ends up in your quote. What we keep instead is a list of customers who are happy to show you their finished roof in a real house. Ring and ask, and we will see who is near you.
- Will you still answer the phone in three years?
- We are a Chester firm and Jerry has been doing this for 40 years, working for himself since 1985. The 10 year workmanship guarantee is written down, not said. The firm that fits your roof is the firm that answers the phone in year three.
